Thermal Insulation Quantities (roof, wall, floor)

Choose the roof, the wall or the floor and enter its dimensions (openings are deducted for a wall). PRAXAO works out the area to insulate, the number of panels to buy with the waste, the volume of insulation, the fixings, the adhesive for a wall and the vapour barrier with its overlaps. Panel size, thickness, fixings, adhesive, overlap and waste are starting values to replace with the maker’s data. The tool counts quantities: it does not give a thermal resistance or a U-value.

What do you want to calculate?

Choose the type of work, then enter the dimensions.

How to use it

  1. Choose roof, wall or floor.
  2. Enter the dimensions, and the openings to deduct for a wall.
  3. Replace the starting values (panel size, thickness, fixings, adhesive, waste) with the maker’s data.
  4. Read the panels to buy, the fixings, the adhesive and the vapour barrier, then price them in the cost panel.

Examples

Worked example — Wall — Length 12 m, Height 2.8 m, Openings to deduct (doors, windows) 6 m²

Area to insulate: 27.60 m² · Panels to buy: 42 · Area covered by the panels: 30.24 m² · Insulation volume: 1.380 m³ · Fixings: 166 · Adhesive: 110.40 kg · Vapour barrier, with overlaps: 30.36 m²

Frequently asked questions

Which thickness should I choose?

The tool does not choose it. The thickness a project needs depends on the climate, the construction and the regulations: it comes from a thermal study and the maker’s data.

How are the panels counted?

The area to insulate is increased by the waste, divided by the area of one panel and rounded up to a whole panel.

Is the vapour barrier always needed?

No. Whether one is needed, and on which side, depends on the construction and the climate. Untick the option when it is not part of your build-up.
