Stirrup and bent rebar length calculator

Pick the shape of the bar, enter the diameter, the number of bars and the dimensions read from the engineer’s drawings: PRAXAO returns the cut length of one bar, the total length, the steel weight with waste and the number of 12 m bars to buy. Hook length and bend deduction are editable assumptions.

How to use it

  1. Choose a closed stirrup, an L bar, a U bar or a straight bar.
  2. Enter the diameter, the number of bars and the dimensions (section and cover for a stirrup, legs for an L or U bar).
  3. Check the hook length and the bend deduction against your drawings.
  4. Read the cut length, the total length, the weight and the commercial bars to buy.

Examples

100 stirrups Ø8 for a 30 × 30 cm section, 3 cm cover, 10-diameter hooks

Core perimeter 2 × (24 + 24) = 96 cm plus two hooks of 8 cm: 112 cm per stirrup, 112 m in total; with 5 % waste 117.6 m, about 46.4 kg and 10 bars of 12 m.

Frequently asked questions

Does it choose the diameter or the spacing?

No. It converts the dimensions of a bar mark read from the drawings into a cut length and a weight. Diameters, spacings, cover and anchorage lengths come from the structural engineer.

What is the bend deduction?

The length lost at each bend when dimensions are measured outside the bar. It is set to 0 by default, meaning the dimensions are taken as developed lengths; enter your own value if your bar schedule uses one.

How is the weight computed?

Weight per metre = cross-section × steel density (7,850 kg/m³), then multiplied by the total length with waste.
