Plumbing Quantities (water supply, drainage)

Choose the water supply or the drainage. For a supply, enter the number of fixtures and the lengths of cold and hot pipe; for a drain, the run, its slope and the bends and branches. PRAXAO gives the pipe with its waste, the bars to buy, the fittings, the clips, and for a supply the isolation valves and the hot-pipe insulation, or for a drain the total drop. Bar length, clip spacing, fittings per metre, slope and waste are starting values to replace with the plumber’s and the maker’s data. The tool counts lengths: it does not size pipes or check pressures.

Waste and cuts (pertes, chutes) — Extra material added for breakage, cuts and offcuts. It is a percentage you set: the usual figure depends on the material and the job.

How to use it

  1. Choose water supply or drainage.
  2. Enter the pipe lengths (and the fixtures, bends and branches).
  3. Replace the starting values (bar length, clip spacing, fittings per metre, slope, waste) with your own.
  4. Read the quantities to buy, then price them in the cost panel.

Examples

Worked example — Water supply (cold and hot) — Fixtures served (basins, WC, showers…) 8, Cold-water pipe run 40 m, Hot-water pipe run 25 m

Cold-water pipe, with waste: 44.00 m · Hot-water pipe, with waste: 27.50 m · Insulation sleeve for the hot pipe: 27.50 m · Isolation valves (one per fixture): 8 · Pipe bars to buy: 18 · Fittings: 39 · Clips: 82

Frequently asked questions

Does it size the pipes?

No. Pipe diameters, flows, pressures and the slope a regulation requires are the work of a plumber or an engineer.

How are the pipe bars counted?

The total length is increased by the waste, divided by the length of a bar and rounded up to a whole bar.

What does the drop mean?

It is the run multiplied by the slope: with 20 m at 1 %, the pipe falls by 0.20 m between its two ends.
