Tie Beams, Lintels and Parapets (concrete, steel, formwork)

Choose a tie beam, a lintel over an opening or a parapet and enter its length (for a lintel, the opening and the bearing on each side) and its section. Enter the bars, stirrups, cover and lap of your drawings: PRAXAO gives the concrete with waste, the formwork, the number of stirrups and the steel by role with the waste. The tool counts a layout you already have: it never chooses a section or a reinforcement and is not a structural design.

What do you want to calculate?

Choose the type of work, then enter the dimensions.

Results are provided for information. Check tax rates and legal requirements that apply to you.

How to use it

  1. Choose tie beam, lintel or parapet.
  2. Enter the length (or the opening and the bearing) and the section.
  3. Enter the bars, the stirrups, the cover and the lap taken from the engineer’s drawings.
  4. Read the concrete, the formwork and the steel, then price them in the cost panel.

Examples

Worked example — Lintel over an opening — Width of the opening 1.2 m, Bearing on each side 25 cm, Number of identical lintels 6

Concrete: 0.408 m³ · Concrete to order, with waste: 0.428 m³ · Formwork area: 6.12 m² · Stirrups: 60 · Longitudinal steel: 25.16 kg · Stirrup steel: 9.59 kg · Total steel, with waste: 36.48 kg · Steel per m³ of concrete: 89.4 kg/m³

Frequently asked questions

Does it choose the section and the bars?

No. The section, the number and diameter of the bars, the stirrups and the cover come from the engineer’s drawings. The starting values only let you see a result.

How is the length of a lintel found?

The width of the opening plus the bearing on each side: for an opening of 1.20 m and 25 cm of bearing, the lintel is 1.70 m long.

Which formwork is counted?

Both faces, and the soffit when you tick it. A parapet has no soffit formwork; a tie beam built on a wall usually has none either.
