Paving Quantities (pavers, sand, base, kerbs)

Enter the length and width of the area and the size of one paver with its joint. PRAXAO works out the number of pavers with the waste, the bedding sand and the base with the compaction allowance, the excavation and the kerbs round the edge. The drawing shows the layers in 3D, the paving in plan with its kerbs, and a section through the layers. Sizes, thicknesses, compaction and waste are starting values to replace with your supplier’s and engineer’s data.

Extra loose material to order because the sand and the base lose volume when compacted. A starting value only: take the figure from your supplier or the engineer.

How to use it

  1. Enter the length and width of the paved area.
  2. Enter the paver size, its thickness and the joint.
  3. Replace the starting values (bed and base thickness, compaction, waste, kerb length) with your data.
  4. Read the pavers, sand, base, excavation and kerbs to buy.

Examples

Worked example — Area length 6 m, Area width 4 m

Paved area: 24.00 m² · Pavers to buy: 1206 · Pavers per m² (joints included): 47.83 /m² · Bedding sand: 1.104 m³ · Base material (gravel): 4.140 m³ · Excavation: 6.480 m³ · Length of kerb line: 20.00 m · Kerbs to buy: 20

Frequently asked questions

Does it design the pavement?

No. It counts what a set of dimensions requires. The pavement build-up for its traffic, the falls, the drainage and the kerb foundations come from the engineer.

How are the pavers counted?

One paver with its joint covers (length + joint) times (width + joint). The area is divided by that, increased by the waste percentage and rounded up.

Why extra sand and base?

Both lose volume when compacted, so more loose material is ordered than the finished thickness suggests. The allowance is a starting value: take the real one from your supplier.
